Seattle to Honor the Legacy of NBA Legend Lenny Wilkens with World Premiere Documentary
The inaugural Seattle Waterfront Basketball Weekend will celebrate one of Seattle's most beloved icons with a documentary chronicling the extraordinary life and legacy of Lenny Wilkens.
SEATTLE, Wash. — The Wilkens family, in partnership with Rise Above, is proud to announce the world premiere of a new documentary honoring the remarkable life and enduring legacy of NBA Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens. The premiere will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Seattle's historic Egyptian Theatre as part of the inaugural Seattle Waterfront Basketball Weekend.
The film tells the inspiring story of Wilkens' extraordinary journey—from Hall of Fame player and championship coach to respected community leader, philanthropist, and advocate for future generations. Through personal stories, archival footage, and reflections from those closest to him, the documentary celebrates a life defined by excellence, humility, and service.
More than a basketball legend, Wilkens dedicated his life to lifting others. His impact extended well beyond the court, shaping generations through mentorship, leadership, and a steadfast commitment to giving back to the Seattle community.
The evening will also highlight the work of Rise Above, the Seattle-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering Indigenous youth through education, mentorship, cultural identity, and leadership development. In his later years, Wilkens became a passionate supporter of the organization's mission, believing deeply in the power of opportunity and investing in the next generation.
"This documentary is a celebration of Lenny's incredible legacy—not only as one of basketball's greatest ambassadors, but as a man whose generosity, compassion, and leadership touched countless lives," said representatives of the Wilkens family. "We are honored to share his story in the city he loved."
